Large round clusters of pink flowers appear on bare stalks in spring followed by shield shaped leaves 1 to 2 feet wide on 2 to 6 foot stalks. Leaves turn red in fall. Stout rhizomes spread in damp ground or streams. Showy plant for ponds or cool woodland gardens.
