Rhamnus californica

This evergreen shrub or small tree grows 5 to 15 feet tall with a 10 foot spread or more. Shiny, dark green 4 inch leaves form a solid, mounding screen. Creamy white flowers are followed by dark purple fruit. Attracts birds, butterflies, beneficial insects, good under oaks. Sun or shade, tolerates heavy soil if not over watered.

Bareroot Fruit and Vegetables

This is the time of year we receive our bareroot plants. Bareroot means they are field grown, dug up, the soil removed, and then shipped soil free. The plants are dormant at this time of year and so are easily transplanted. This means that you can get a larger plant at a much reduced price. We have the following plants available:

Amity Red Raspberry- Large, firm, dark red berries with excellent flavor. This selection has two crops, one in the fall from the first year growth and again the following June on the 2nd year old wood. Canes grow 5 to 6 feet tall. Full sun, handles most soils but likes compost. Prune out some of the old canes to encourage new ones.
Fall Gold Raspberry- Large, firm, golden berries, very sweet. This selection has two crops, one in the fall from the first year growth and again the following June on the 2nd year old wood. Improved Green Globe Artichokes- This is a new nearly spineless variety developed by the University of California. Mature buds are globe shaped with a rich glossy green color. Suitable for coastal growing conditions as well as the warmer inland valleys. Highly productive for home gardeners.
Victoria Cherry Rhubarb- Because it's grown from seed Victoria Cherry Rhubarb can develop stems ranging from red to green in color . It is known for its sweet taste, non stringy texture and good flavor. with firm, medium sized stalks.
Seascape Strawberry- Plants grow 6 to 8 inches across, 12 inches high and spread by runners. Seascape has extra large very sweet berries. It is an Everbearing variety good for a longer harvest. Plant 15 inches apart and cut back after harvesting. If too crowded remove the mother plants.
Misty Blueberry-Misty is one of the most attractive southern highbush varieties, bright blue green foliage with hot pink spring flowers and sky blue fruit. The berries are large with excellent quality, evergreen tendency in mild winter areas. Early season, semi-self fertile - Southern Highbush, needs average water.
Sharp Blue Blueberry- This is a prolific producer with large, sweet fruits, excellent flavor. Plants grow 4 to 6 feet high and are self fertile. It likes cool, well drained acid soil, average water and makes a handsome informal hedge, similar to Huckle berry only deciduous, good fall color. Thin or cut back to reduce fruiting buds and produce larger berries.
Sunshine Blue Blueberry-For gardens from San Diego to Seattle Sunshine Blue has it all. Semi-dwarf evergreen has a highly branched compact habit to 3 feet. Showy hot pink flowers fade to white in spring. Dime sized fruit with tangy flavor for up to 9 weeks in summer. Semi-self fertile - Southern Highbush, needs average water.
Jewel Blueberry- This early season, highly productive blueberry has large firm fruits with excellent flavor, slightly tart. Plants grow 5 to 6 feet high and are self fertile. This is a southern high bush and needs less chill hours to fruit. It likes cool, well drained acid soil, average water. Makes a handsome informal hedge, similar to Huckleberry only deciduous.
