Growing for Spring

On this page we'll be posting random notes including nursery sales, featured plants and nursery events. We encourage a visit to our planting guides section for ideas on specific planting situations. The lists are only suggestions of a few of the plants that we find to have worked and you may discover new ones on your own. Don't take it personally if something dies, it's just part of gardening.

Friday Music

Well Perked

Almost every Friday, visitors to Mostly Natives are entertained by the lively music of Well Perked. The family band consisting of Stan Wells, Betty Perkins and Mike Perkins, play an unusual mix of folk, old rock-n-roll and Irish tunes. This is their way of finishing off their work week, and we enjoy their performance. Stan's You Tube channel is sw94929.

February is Bare Root Month

During the month of Frebruary we offer a limited number a bare root items. Bare root means exactly that; the plants are unpotted. This kicks off our vegetable plant season, as all of our bare root plants are edible. At the nursery you will find Blueberries (4 varities) Rasberries (2 varieties) Strawberries (2 varieties) and Rhubarb.

The advantages of bare root are ease of planting, and cost. The plants are currently dormant and are healed into bins at the nursery. When purchased they should be planted immediatly. If planting is delayed, they should be healed into a well drained medium untill the site is ready. Blueberries like a well drained, rich and acidic soil. It is also best to plant atleast two, as cross-fertilization produces a better crop. For a list, click our bare Root Page.
