Torreya californica California Nutmeg This evergreen tree grows slowly 15 to 40 feet tall, 10 to 20 feet wide. Handsome, stiff needles are sharp enough to form a barrier hedge. Sun near the coast, medium shade anywhere, average water. A good container tree or pruned for a hedge. Native to the north coast range and foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
