Aralia californica

 

This member of the ginseng family has bold palmately divided leavesthat grow on 3 to 6 foot stalks with tiny white flowers followed by dark purple fruits. Native to streambanks and seeps it likes water and some shade. Excellent habitat plant for birds, interesting addition for a woodland garden. Bay Area Native
